The event was opened by the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Zurab Azarashvili.

Zurab Azarashvili noted, that increased accessibility of population to medical services of high quality and increased accessibility to medicines represent priority for the Ministry.

As stated by the Minister, the Ministry implements number of reforms for this purpose, and the control of their execution is done by the Regulation Agency for Medical and Pharmaceutical Activities.

According to the Director of the Agency, the Ministry actively works for improved quality in the sector. This year infection control mechanisms in clinics were strengthened. New permit conditions for resuscitation services came into force. With the purpose of increased accessibility to quality medicines, Turkish market was opened. The system of mandatory e-prescriptions became operational. With the purpose of quality assurance of pharmaceuticals at market GMP/GDP standards were introduced; National Laboratory of Drug Control will be opened next year.

As Lika Chumburudze said, it is planned to involve international and local associations in the process of clinical assessment of provided medical aid. This novelty will significantly improve the process of studying medical aid provided to patients.
