More than USD 1 billion will be spent on completing suspended hydro power plant projects across Georgia to activate 800 megawatts of supply, while the Government will also announce a tender for the construction of new energy facilities adding 1,500 MW of generation.

“We made a decision regarding the HPPs. If I am not mistaken, the hydroelectric power project has been stopped for the last 5 years. In this regard, we had very intensive negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and we reached a result. A project to build up to 800 MW HPP will be launched, for which probably more than one billion will be spent. In addition, we will announce a tender for 1500 MW at the end of 2022. This is a direct investment of 2.5 billion dollars.

In 2023 we will also add more megawatts. The main focus will be on hydroelectric plants, as well as wind and solar plants. We are also working on creating additional capacity and are planning to build an additional thermal plant. We want to announce these tenders as well. In total, this is an investment of about 3-4 billion dollars in the next 2-3 years”, - said Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia.
