Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of recently held operative-search measures and investigative actions seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi and regions of the country - 9 persons were arrested.

The employees of the main division of the Central Criminal Police Department for the fight against organized crime, detained previously convicted V.M. (DoB 1987) for illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition. The law enforcement officers seized the Makarov pistol, a magazine and 8 cartridges as evidence from the vehicle of the accused person.
The employees of the patrol police department detained previously convicted G.B (DoB 1996) in Tbilisi. Seeing the patrol crew, the accused person threw the firearm out of the vehicle window in order to get rid of it. Law enforcement officers seized the firearm as evidence.
Employees of Vake-Saburtalo police main division of Tbilisi Police Department, detained previously convicted L. Kh. (DoB 1975) for illegal acquisition and possession of firearms. The police, as a result of the search of the apartment of the detainee, seized a pistol, magazine and cartridges as evidence.
The employees of Gurjaani and Akhmeta regional divisions under Kakheti Police Department detained previously convicted two persons: G.A. (DoB 1984) and K. Ch. (DoB 1986). They were arrested on charges of illegal purchase and possession of firearms and marijuana. During the search of G.A.’s residential house, the police seized a cutgun, 2 cartridges and marijuana. As a result of the search of K.Ch.’s place of residence and the storage facility located in the yard, the law enforcement officers recovered a firearm as evidence and dried marijuana.
The employees of Lagodekhi police division of the same department, as a result of special measures conducted together with the Land Border Protection Department of the Border Police and the Administration of the Protected Areas of Lagodekhi, detained previously convicted D. J. (DoB 1981) for illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition, as well as illegal hunting in the protected area. police seized an unregistered automatic firearm, a magazine, 45 cartridges, a hunting rifle.
The employees of Martvil Police division of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti police department detained previously convicted Z.T. (DoB 1969). As a result of the search held in detainee’s house, police seized a fire pistol and 1 cartridge.
The employees of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department detained M.D. (DoB 1978) for illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. As a result of the search of the defendant"s house, the police seized a pistol, 2 magazines and 66 cartridges as evidence.
As for R.I. (DoB 1969), he was arrested in Batumi by the officers of the Adjara Police Department on charges of illegal acquisition and storage of firearms and ammunition. The law enforcement officers seized the firearm and 8 cartridges illegally stored by R.I. as evidence.

The committed crimes envision from 3 to 7 years of imprisonment. The investigation is being conducted under Articles 236, 273 and 301 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
