The President of Georgia is holding meetings in Paris as part of her France working visit. Salome Zourabichvili met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay to discuss the cultural heritage condition in the occupied territories of Georgia and biodiversity issues.
“Beyond human rights violations in occupied territories, cultural heritage is intentionally damaged and, in many cases, destroyed; there is no international mechanism, including UNESCO that would monitor their condition there”, - said the President.
She once again raised the issue of UNESCO using some mechanism to monitor the monuments in the occupied territories.
