Reform on funding model of medical services comes into force starting from today. The clinics enrolled in State Healthcare Program will receive reimbursement based on diagnosis-related group (DRG) funding model. The system will allow automatic calculation of fair price that Ministry will pay for quality treatment of citizens
According to the Minister of Health, Zurab Azarashvili, the State cares of health of its citizens and actively works on further increased accessibility and quality of medical services.
Upon introduction of a new system, the same rate for the same services will apply to all clinics.
A patient will pay only co-payment amount envisaged by Universal Healthcare Program (from 0% to 30% according to the package of healthcare program). A clinic will not any longer charge additional fee to a patient enrolled in Universal Healthcare Program.
As noted by Azarashvili, the Ministry will strictly control co-payment amount and quality of services.
DRG is a common, proven funding model in developed countries of the world.
Patient’s diagnosis, age, duration of hospitalization and other criteria define the amount of financing.
The model improves overall effectiveness of health system and provides possibility for more tailored to patient’s needs use of financial resources available to the Ministry of Health.
