Mestia hosts World Food Day and the International Day of Rural Women. On this occasion, the agrarian market and the exhibition of bread and wheat have been arranged exposing the local products of the farmers, including dairy products, wine, honey and niche products. The bread and wheat festival introduced the ancient Georgian wheat species. The rural women held discussions and workshops on food safety.
“UN goals have unified the world countries around the proper principles and values. Today, we are united to celebrate rural women and world food days. Our joint efforts led to the increased engagement of women in the agrarian sector, however, the goals of the empowerment of women and the provision of the world with food are not yet achieved, which requires the accumulation of our efforts”, - said the Chair of the Agrarian Committee, and the Chair of the Gender Equality Council, Nino Tsilosani.
World Food Day is celebrated by FAO on annual basis every October 16 in up to 150 world countries. This year, Mestia hosted the event on promotion of the local niche products and local farmers, support of the rural entrepreneur women and awareness of their labor.
