Parliament of Georgia hosts the members of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seimas

The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili held a meeting with the members of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seimas.

The parties discussed the Georgia-EU cooperation agenda and the parliamentary cooperation prospects between the two countries, as well as the security challenges in the region and the importance of the support of the EU integration of Georgia against this background. The historical importance of the European perspective of Georgia was highlighted. The parties touched upon the EU integration progress of Georgia and the fulfillment of the EU recommendations, as well as the activities of the working groups and the Committees.

The parties overviewed the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the security milieu in the region; in this context, the parties underlined the challenges Georgia encounters, including the creeping occupation and the grave situation on the occupied territories.

At the meeting, the Lithuanian MPs reaffirmed unwavering support to the EU and NATO integration, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Nino Iobashvili and the Committee member, Teona Akubardia. The Delegation of Lithuania is composed of the Chair of the National Security and Defense Committee, Laurynas Kasciunas and the Committee members, Vice-Speaker of the Seimas, Andrius Mazuronis and MP Virgilijus Alekna.
