Prime Minister of Georgia met Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany during his Official Visit to Berlin today.

Special importance of the referred visit for a further strengthening of current partnership between the countries was highlighted at the meeting. The Head of Government of Georgia particularly noted the outstanding political support of Germany and personally of President Steinmeier towards Georgia.

It was noted that Georgia and Germany are reliable and valuable partners to each other, based on the long-standing connections and common values. Significant role of Germany was highlighted in the success of the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia.

It was noted that practical support of Germany, demonstrated to Georgia for many years, is rendered by the Government of Germany as well as various other institutions and a private sector. Parties welcome the successful trade and economic partnership existing between the countries for years, vividly manifesting in the operation of German companies in Georgia.

Parties discussed the joint steps and ways to facilitate a greater interest of German businesses to the economy and investment potential of Georgia. The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of assistance provided by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and other German agencies in the development of the country.

Parties also discussed the current security environment in the region and conditions witnessed in the occupied territories of Georgia.

Irakli Garibashvili expressed gratitude to Germany for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, along with an appreciation of efforts made by the German Government towards ensuring peaceful conflict resolution. Discussion was also related to the peace policy of Georgia and significance of support from the international community towards this end.

Parties welcomed a historic decision made by the European Council on granting a European Perspective to Georgia for the eventual accession to the EU. Discussion was also related to the Action Plan and steps made forward by Georgia towards implementing the recommendations laid out in the Opinion of the European Council.

Plans were made at the meeting on advancing the cooperation between the two countries to a higher level and full readiness was expressed thereby for deepening the multilateral cooperation in various directions.
