The US is concerned about reports of escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border - John Kirby

White House spokesman John Kirby said the United States remained deeply concerned about reports of attacks along the countries’ border and urged the governments of both countries to re-establish direct lines of communications across diplomatic and military channels, Reuters reports.

“The U.S. is concerned about reports of escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including strikes on civilian infrastructure. We’ve actively engaged with both the Armenian and the Azerbaijani government to ... see what we can do to end this violence. There can be no military solution to this conflict. We urge restraint from any further military hostilities.

Secretary Antony Blinken has spoken with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

We also encourage the sides to restore direct communication channels, both diplomatic and military, and reaffirm their commitment to the diplomatic process to overcome the crisis”, - said Kirby.
