In 2021, disinformation campaigns by individual countries and their special services represented a significant challenge for state security. Such a statement made today the Head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili in the Parliament.

“Against the background of the situation in the region, taking into account the increased threats, the State Security Service continuously monitored the operational situation in the country.

In 2021, disinformation campaigns directed against Georgia by individual countries and their special services, whose main target still was the country’s foreign policy course and the issue of integration into the Euro-Atlantic space, represented a significant challenge for state security.

During the reporting year, the State Security Service continuously monitored the ongoing processes within the so-called information war, revealed the persons and organizations involved in the mentioned campaigns, as well as their sources of financing.

Relationships between individual actors and the methods used by them in their activities were established by the respective units. Assessment of expected risks and implementation of measures stipulated by the law were in progress.

In 2021, the disinformation campaigns against the State Security Service itself and, in general, the agencies included in the security system, became even more active. Politically interested and engaged persons spread absurd, damaging accusations against the service.

It should be emphasized that campaigns based on such disinformation directed against the security sector in many cases cause irreparable damage to the country"s security, which prepares a fertile ground for hostile forces to act freely”, - said Grigol Liluashvili.
