Boris Johnson gave a defiant speech outside Downing Street on Tuesday morning on his final day as UK prime minister before handing over to new Tory party leader Liz Truss. Johnson said he would back Liz Truss.
“It’s time for us all to get behind Liz Truss and her team, and her programme, and deliver for the people of this country. Because that is what the people of this country want. That’s what they need. And that’s what they deserve.
I will be supporting Liz Truss and the new government every step of the way”, - he said.
Johnson and Truss will meet the Queen at her Balmoral estate in Scotland - although they will fly in separate planes - to formalize the new regime after a gruelling leadership race over the summer.
