The officers of the Detectives Division under Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operative measures and investigative activities arrested three persons: G.I. (DoB 1989) previously convicted: G.B. (DoB 1998) and N.B. (DoB 2001) for extortion committed in group.

The committed crime envisions from 4 to 7 years of imprisonment.

The investigation established that defendants extorted money from the foreign citizen E.M. (DoB 1988) for their own financial benefits.

In Khelvachauri municipality, E.M. was engaged in commercial activities by renting paragliders. The defendants used violence and under the threats of liquidation as well as seizure of his paragliders extorted the income for their own benefits.

Based on the relevant court decision, the law enforcers carried out covert investigative measures as well as complex investigative-procedural activities, as a result of which illegal actions perpetrated against E.M. was confirmed.

Police detained all three persons in Adjara as a result of special operative measures, based on a judge’s ruling.

The fact of gang extortion is being investigated under Article 181, Part II, Subparagraph “A” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
