French President Emmanuel Macron says t France doesn’t need Russian gas and will continue to push for sanctions on Russian gas supplies. The corresponding statement was published by the president on France 5, Ukrinform reports.
“Europe depends on Russian gas, but France doesn’t need it”, - Macron said, adding that his country has been working to buy gas from other markets.
The French leader noted that his country would continue to promote sanctions on Russian gas supplies.
Macron also denied reports that it was on his initiative that the issue of an embargo on Russian oil was postponed until the end of the presidential election in France. The embargo is being blocked by another nation, Macron said, stopping short of naming it.
“The European market is interconnected, and Europe depends on Russian gas”, - Macron said, commenting on the issue.
At the same time, he said, Europeans should stop buying oil and gas from Russia to “weaken Moscow’s ability to fight”.
