Ministry of Internal Affairs seized illegal firearms in Tbilisi and regions of the country - 6 people detained

As a result of recent operative-search activities and investigative measures, the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained 6 people in Tbilisi and regions of the country for illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. Various types of illegal firearms have been seized.

The officers of Guria Police Department arrested Z.O., (DoB 1978) in the village of Shukhuti, Lanchkhuti Municipality. During the search of detainee’s house, the police seized 3 shotguns of Geko system, 3 pistols of different models, 1 handmade pistol, 3 unregistered hunting rifles, 28 ammunition cartridges of different calibers and 3 RGD hand grenades.

The officers of the Central Criminal Police Department arrested formerly convicted G.Kh. (DoB 1981), in Tbilisi. During the search of the accused"s apartment, the law enforcers seized- “TT” pistol, 2 magazines and 10 ammunition cartridges as well as an illegally cultivated, drug-containing plant.

The officers of Gldani-Nadzaladevi Police Main Division, on the basis of the relevant court decision confiscated a firearm and 9 ammunition cartridges as evidence as a result of a search of the residence of a formerly convicted R.K. (DoB 1973).

As for another detainee – A.B. (DoB 1991), the police seized a firearm, and 4 ammunition cartridges as evidence as a result of a search of the vehicle operated by him.

The officers of Isani-Samgori Main Division detained previously convicted T.Dz. (DoB1961) in Tbilisi. As a result of the search activities held in detainee’s house on the basis of the relevant court decision, police seized an automatic rifle, two magazines and 11 ammunition cartridges as evidence.

Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti Police Department officers arrested B.F. (DoB 1971) for illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. During the search conducted in detainee’s house and storage facility in Martvili, law enforcement officers seized automatic firearm and 54 cartridges as evidence.

The committed crime envisions from 4 to 11 years of imprisonment.

Investigation on the facts of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition, as well as cultivation of a plant containing a large amount of narcotics is in progress under Article 236, III, IV and VI parts and Article 265, II part, sub-paragraph “A” of the criminal Code of Georgia.
