Putin should not win this war, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas told CNN, adding that it was “heartbreaking” to see what Russia is doing in Ukraine.
“We are trying to do everything we can to support and help Ukraine fight this war. Putin should not win this war”, - Kallas told the State of the Union.
NATO strategy should focus on ending the war using intelligent content… There are some skills that are very expensive for each individual state, but if we do them together here in Europe to defend our territories, we are stronger. Nations must move to isolate Russia, all political levels possible”, - she said.
Asked about Poland’s proposal to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, Kallas said peace must be achieved first and that Russia is not showing any intention of achieving it.
“We can only have a peacekeeping mission if we have peace, but you know, if you look at what is happening in Ukraine, peace is not something we see there. It is a war that is going on and I do not see that Russia has any intention of doing anything to achieve peace. So, first we have to have peace, then we have to preserve it. Sometimes to achieve peace, we must have the will to use military force”, - she said.
Kallas also compared the deportations that took place in Mariupol to what Russia did in the 1940s, when the Estonians got into the “cattle machines” sent to Siberia: “He is creating this great migration pressure in Europe and what we see in different countries, we also see that the extreme right is now taking tone, and does not help refugees coming from Ukraine. The enemy is Russia, not the refugees”.
