Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with his Polish counterpart, Mateusz Morawiecki, in Batumi.

During a face-to-face meeting, the parties discussed the regional challenges arising from the military action in Ukraine, also the EU integration bids made by the Associated Trio of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova.

Irakli Garibashvili reaffirmed Georgia’s political support and solidarity with Ukraine in both bilateral and international formats, also speaking out the humanitarian aid provided by the Georgian side to the Ukrainian people. Prime Ministers emphasized the role of the international community’s joint effort in deescalating the situation and its steps toward ending the war as soon as possible.

The meeting focused on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, with emphasis on the country’s progress. The Prime Minister of Georgia underlined the importance of a positive decision of the European Commission on Georgia’s EU membership application and the significance of support from international partners, including Poland, in this process. This is the Georgian people’s historical decision, Irakli Garibashvili emphasized, and Georgia understands that it is a long process, though it is also motivated to press on and implement successful complex reforms.

The Prime Ministers also discussed the dire humanitarian and security situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. The Prime Minister of Poland reiterated strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and for the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The meeting underscored the friendly relations and strong partnership between Georgia and Poland. The year 2022 is special in the two countries’ relations in that it marks the 30th anniversary of restored diplomatic relations. The parties expressed commitment to furthering strategic partnership and high-level dialogue across a variety of areas.
