In light of global practices, the Health Ministry and the Center for Disease Control will discuss shortening recommended isolation, with the relevant instruction issued by the Prime Minister of Georgia at today’s videoconference session of the Interagency Coordination Council, chaired by Irakli Garibashvili.

The council, based on an overview of the country’s epidemiological situation, reported that the omicron variant, a milder strain for the most part, accounts for 95% of the infection cases, explaining the insignificant growth in hospitalization statistics. Most patients are treated at home, with family physicians monitoring their health conditions.

The council’s meeting reiterated the importance of vaccination and booster doses in reducing the severity of infection and avoiding hospitalization.

The Interagency Coordination Council once again urges citizens to wear facemasks, observe applicable regulations, and avoid crowded gatherings, also to stay at home if symptoms develop.

Since the first coronavirus case identified in Georgia, the country has seen 1,350,454 confirmed cases, with 1,124,442 recoveries and 15,300 deaths.

Presently, 1,897 persons are in clinical hotels, and 6,082 are hospitalized under medical supervision.

The Parliament of Georgia and the President’s Administration are actively involved in the work of the Interagency Coordination Council under the Prime Minister.
