The powers of the President of Armenia are officially terminated

The powers of Armenian President Armen Sarkissian have been officially terminated. This happened after the publication of the relevant protocol by the Speaker of the Parliament Alen Simonyan. on the site legislature on, February 1, writes perild.com.

“Based on the resignation of the President and guided by Article 142 of the Constitution and the requirements of paragraph 2 of part 1 of Article 147 of the regulations of the National Assembly, to consider the powers of the President Armen Sarkissian terminated”, - Simonyan said in a statement.

Early presidential elections in Armenia are held no earlier than 25 and no later than 35 days after the opening of a vacancy. Until then, the speaker of parliament will act as head of state. The President is elected by Parliament for a 7-year term. The same person can be elected president only once. At least one quarter of the total number of deputies has the right to nominate a candidate.

Let us recall that on January 23, Armen Sargsyan announced his resignation. The main reason he pointed out was the lack of proper powers that do not allow the head of state to influence the fundamental processes of foreign and domestic policy.
