MPs got acquainted with the draft national counter-terrorism strategy

The Defense and Security and the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committees heard the Director of the Information-Analytical Department of the State Security Service, Giorgi Sabedashvili introducing the draft national counter-terrorism strategy.

 

At the beginning of the sitting, the Chairs of the Committees elucidated the importance of the strategy.

 

“In countering terrorism, Georgia is a successful country, which is conditioned with the effective legal and institutional mechanisms we undertake and which are recognized by our international partners. The productivity and efficiency of our national counter-terrorism mechanism are evident, which is expressed in the security of our country and the prevention of realization of the threats into the terrorist crimes, which pose the challenge for the international society. Various directions and certain activities in this direction are introduced in the National Strategy for 2019-2021 and since the hereof document and the action plan are to be soon expired, the respective documents for 2022-2026 shall be approved”, - the Chair of the Defense Committee, Irakli Beraia stated.

 

The Draft has been developed by the Inter-Agency Commission headed by the SSS and composed of the representatives of all executive instances.

 

According to the Chair of the Human Rights Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the submission of the Draft to the Committees indicates to proper and good cooperation and communication with the Parliament and deriving from the importance of the issue, the Draft was introduced in camera.
