We have all the practical tools for NATO membership - Irakli Garibashvili

At the joint press-conference after the meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said that “we have all the practical tools for NATO membership”.

“NATO membership is a key issue in Georgia’s foreign and security policy, supported by the vast majority of the Georgian nation. We are working closely with the Alliance to ultimately develop a clear vision for Georgia’s integration into NATO. We have all the practical tools for membership and are engaged in active dialogue with the Allies to prepare a political decision on Georgia’s accession to NATO.

I would like to remind everyone that at the 2008 Bucharest Summit, the Allies decided that Georgia would become a member of the Alliance. It was a very strong message then and still remains relevant today. That is why we are working diligently on the practical implementation of the decision of the 2008 Bucharest Summit.

Every state has the sovereign right to choose its own foreign policy course. This decision is the cornerstone on which Georgia’s NATO membership process is based. We believe that the successful implementation of this choice is as important for NATO as for Georgia”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
