First trial in the case of Gaprindashvili V. Netflix to be held on January 24

The first trial in the case of Gaprindashvili V. Netflix has been scheduled for January 24 in the state of California. Such a statement made today the lawyer of Nona Gaprindashvili.

According to Maia Mtsariashvili, the court dispute will be related to the episode where it is said that Nona Gaprindashvili has never played with men and where she is called a Russian chess player.

“Netflix presented the traditional way of defence and petitioned to terminate the proceedings, which looks unbelievable and weak. We demand that Netflix be ordered to pay USD 5 million for damages and to correct the defamatory phrase. The first court hearing in this case has been scheduled for January 24, in California. We have very positive expectations.

The producer and screenwriter of the TV series have been questioned and they had to confirm that Nona Gaprindashvili was a real person and spent most of her career playing with men”, - said Maia Mtsariashvili.

Georgian chess player filed a lawsuit against Netflix in the Los Angeles Federal District Court in September. This applies to the final episode of the famous TV series The Queen’s Gambit, where false information is voiced.
