Roads shut, truck drivers stranded after heavy snowfall hits northern Spain

A heavy snow storm in northern Spain over the weekend resulted in road closures, as truck drivers were left stranded. According to Spain’s traffic authorities, 139 roads across northern Spain were affected by the storm.

Some truck drivers were stranded for at least 15 hours at a service station, unable to move.

Spain’s transport minister said that 847 snow ploughs were operating, and over 156-thousand tons of sodium chloride and sea salt were on hand to battle the snowfall on roads and highways.
