On World Children’s Day, UNICEF believes that teachers in Georgia have made a crucial contribution to ensuring continuity of learning and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of their students.

“Every teacher under this pandemic is a hero. They had to adapt to new realities, new ways of teaching, new technologies and this was not easy. We commend educators for the central role they have played, and continue to play, in responding to and recovering from this pandemic. UNICEF continues working closely with the Ministry of Education and Science and with academia to support teachers in building digital and pedagogical skills to apply innovative teaching methodologies. Now is the time to reimagine education and achieve equal access to quality learning for every child in Georgia”, - said Dr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia.

To recognize the work of teachers amid the pandemic, UNICEF celebrated World Children’s Day in one of the schools of the city of Borjomi, in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. UNICEF Representative Ghassan Khalil visited the school #3 of Borjomi which joined the UNICEF’s global ‘Kids Takeover’ campaign and students themselves became school principals and teachers. A round table discussion was organized between UNICEF Representative and schoolchildren to discuss child rights and share their experience and vision for their future.

More than 100 teachers from schools in Borjomi and Bakuriani, as well as nearby villages, participated in informational meetings on the benefits and importance of vaccination against COVID-19.
