It is categorically unacceptable to release footage that is degrading for honor and dignity. Such a statement made today the President of Georgia, while commenting the case of Mikheil Saakashvili.

“Logically, the Government should be most interested in maintaining the health of the former president. For its part, the public has the right to receive complete, impartial, reliable and detailed information daily on his health, nutrition, and tests, instead of false rumours and speculations. This is the Government’s duty and I urge it to start fulfilling this obligation immediately and not partially.

I would like to address the Government and the society and express my views on this serious issue.

The dignity of Mikheil Saakashvili must be protected regardless of his behavior, as the former president is still connected to the state and this status must be respected, so the release of footage that is degrading for honor and dignity is categorically unacceptable to me, as the president of this country.

The public remembers well how prisoners were treated in the former president"s penitentiary system, so the current government cannot become like its predecessor.

Therefore, indifference, ridicule, harassment, insults are unacceptable not only for me, but, I am sure, for the whole society”, - said Salome Zourabichvili.
