The officers of Police Departments of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, Adjara and Tbilisi under the the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 3 persons in Tbilisi and Batumi as a result of intensive investigative activities and special operative measures carried out along with the District Prosecutor"s Office of Western Georgia.

Persons accused of the membership and supporting the “Thieves’ world” were detained on the basis of the relevant decision of the court. The detainees are as follows: previously convicted D.K., (DoB 1971Nicknamed “Dato Tbiliski”), G.L. (DoB1961) and I.K. (DoB 1978);

The committed crime envisages from 3 to 10 years of imprisonment.

As a result of complex investigative activities it was established that D.K., using his own name and influence of other members of the “thieves’ world”, attempted to obtain personal as well as material benefits for the “thieves’ world” through “criminal skirmishes” and intimidation. With the help of G.L. and I.K., as well as R.M. (DoB 1997), he contacted a businessman working in Batumi – V.M. (DoB1977), and demanded several thousand US dollars. In case of non-payment, the businessman was threatened with loss of life, damage to health, retribution against family members and destruction of property.

Within the frames of the ongoing investigation, the law enforcers, based on the judge’s decision, carried out covert investigative activities and videotaped the process depicting criminal actions of the accused persons and their accomplice - R.M.

As a result of the detainee’s personal search and search activities held in residential houses, the police seized cell phones and computer equipment as evidence, through which the accused persons communicated each other and others being in criminal connections with them.

As for R.M., relevant investigative and search activities are being carried out in order to arrest him.

The investigation on the fact of membership and supporting the "Thieves World" is in progress under Article 223, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and Article 223, Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
