North Korea launched a projectile off the east coast yesterday (28). It was identified by National News as a newly developed hypersonic missile and is the latest in a series of new weapons tested by isolated nations.
South Korean troops said North Korea launched missiles into the sea off the east coast as North Korea called on the United States and South Korea to abolish the “double standard” on weapons plans to resume diplomatic negotiations.
While the development of a weapon system enhances North Korea’s defense capabilities, KCNA described hypersonic missiles as “strategic weapons”.
Unlike ballistic missiles that fly into space before returning to a steep orbit, supersonic weapons can fly towards low-altitude targets and achieve more than five times the speed of sound, or about 6,200 km/h.
