Fine imposed for damaging the European Union flag

The Parliament of Georgia drafted legislative amendments to impose cash penalties for damaging the flags of the European Union, state flags of EU and other countries that Georgia has diplomatic ties, also international organizations that fly on governmental buildings.

Legislative amendments have already been prepared. Kakha Kucahava, the Chairman on the legislature, introduced the upcoming changes to the leaders of the opposition factions.

Under the changes, a GEL 1,000 fine will be imposed for damaging the flag. In case of repetition of the action, the judge will have the discretion to apply administrative detention.
