We call on everyone to stop the anti-state campaign against the independence of the judiciary - the statement of judges

Judges of the Common Courts of Georgia are “concern over recent politically motivated, highly unhealthy processes aiming to discredit the judiciary”. In a statement published today, they call for “halting the anti-state campaign against the independence of the judiciary and allow it to act as per Constitution”.

“The judiciary must be independent of both the executive and the legislative bodies and of any kind of political influence by them, as well as any unhealthy influence that may arise from other actors involved in public and political processes.

It is worrying that, especially in recent times, there have been politically motivated, highly unhealthy processes aimed at discrediting the judiciary and directed against its independence.

We are the patriots of our country and we protect the interests of the state. We are committed to the law and serve its enforcement with dignity.

The judiciary in Georgia has never been as independent as it is today. Independent judiciary means better human rights, better rule of law and stronger legal state.

We are ready to listen to any healthy criticism and remarks aimed at further strengthening and healing the judiciary. But no one has the right to violate the constitutional principle of the independence of the judiciary, to restrict the exercise of constitutional powers by the constitutional bodies of the judiciary”, - reads the statement.
