We could not hear the arguments that would strengthen Giorgi Gakharia’s position, said today the Chairman of the Georgian Dream party at a briefing regarding the case of Nika Melia.

“Giorgi Gakharia was a member of our political team. It is unfortunate that he made such a decision. There was indeed a discussion in our political team about the timing of the execution of the court decision against Nika Melia.

Gakharia had a different position on this issue from other members of the team. However, unfortunately, we could not hear the arguments that would strengthen his position. The watershed was an issue - should the country show its face firmly as a state or not. For the rest of the team, the answer to this question was unequivocal.

A country where the rule of law is not ensured, especially in the conditions when it is faced by criminals as such a big challenge, cannot establish as a state. Moreover, it is the proper non-enforcement of the law that contributes to political radicalization and polarization in the country. It is our responsibility as a government to firmly and strictly defend the dignity of the state”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
