Officers of the MIA, State Security Service and Revenue Service have foiled the attempted smuggling of drugs to Georgia

The officers of the Main Division for the Fight against Illegal Drug Circulation of the Central Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Security Service and Revenue Service, as a result of jointly held operative-search and investigative activities detained the citizen of Iran – M.D. (DoB 1987) on the basis of the relevant court decision, who is accused of illegal purchase-keeping-selling and smuggling drugs in especially large quantities to Georgia.


Committed crime envisages from 8 to 20 or lifetime imprisonment.


Investigation established that citizen of Islamic Republic of Iran, M.D. (DoB 1987) who resided in Tbilisi, sold drugs on the regular basis. Police, on the basis of the respective court decision, had covertly purchased “Methadone” drug from the detainee and videotaped the entire process.


Investigation also established that M.D. plotted to smuggle “Methadone” drug in large quantities to Georgia. As a result of the operative and investigative activities law enforcers established the probable route of the plotted crime. On the territory of Tbilisi Customs Clearance Zone, as a result of the search activities held in truck and its trailer, law enforcers seized drugs in especially large quantities, in particular 1171 pills of “Methadone” hidden in the salt bags.
Active investigative activities are in progress to identify others involved in the mentioned crime.


Investigation is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase-keeping-selling and smuggling drugs in especially large quantities to Georgia, committed in group with a previous consent, articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
