Giorgi Gakharia visits Kutaisi metrology station to examine advanced radar capabilities

The Prime Minister of Georgia inspected the advanced radar capabilities at Kutaisi Metrology Station, which allows for the calculation of potential rainfall and harm prevention in west Georgia.


Giorgi Gakharia was accompanied by Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Zviad Shalamberidze, State Representative in Imereti Region; along with local majoritarians MP Zaza Lominadze and MP Bezhan Tsakadze. Purpose of the visit to Kutaisi Metrology Station was an advanced radar installed today with financial support of the US Government to the National Environmental Agency of Georgia.


Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia briefed the Head of Government of Georgia on the capabilities of the metrology radar. According to Levan Davitashvili, new radar will let the National Environmental Agency to efficiently receive data on the types of clouds, their water content, direction and speed of movement, along with other physical characteristics in the radius of 200-250 km from Kutaisi.


In addition, radar will allow for the quantity and intensity of potential rainfall to be defined on almost the entire territory of west Georgia, thereby providing timely forecast and projections on the looming floods, freshets and raging mountain torrents to the applicable institutions.
