Georgia to receive COVID-19 vaccine in spring – Amiran Gamkrelidze

The Georgian government through Foreign Ministry and other official channels is working to receive COVID-19 vaccine by the country as early as possible. Such a statement made today the Head of the National Center for Diseases Control and Public Health (NCDC).

“Georgia is due to receive coronavirus vaccine through the COVAX platform in March-April. However, in parallel, Georgia was working on importing one of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization, to begin vaccination at an earlier stage. Risk group persons will be vaccinated at the first stage including doctors, elderly people and patients with chronic diseases. About 20-30% of the population will get vaccine shots at the beginning”, - said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

He added that COVID-19 positivity rate has dropped to 28% and Georgia is showing the stabilization signs.

“We had COVID-19 positivity rate at 32-31% for the last two weeks, now it stands at 28% that indicates stabilization signs in the peak of the pandemic”, - said the Head of NCDC.
