Opposition parties still say that they will refuse to enter into a dialogue with Georgian Dream on 2020 parliamentary elections which they suspended after the detention of Gigi Ugulava.

As the member of the United National Movement opposition party Zaal Udumashvili said, renewal of the dialogue has no meaning as opposition leaders are politically persecuted.

Opposition leaders made some more comments after the meeting at the Labor Party office.

“We will create multi-party majoritarian bloc. We made such decision. All political parties - 38 or 40 - with all their resources and voters will support it. Ivanishvili wants proportional system and with this idea he once again confronted the world community”, - said Shalva Natelashvili.

“There are 2 interrelated topics. One is to respect the society. To fulfill the promise, find compromise on electoral system and we offered them many options. The second is a political prosecution and an atmosphere that makes it impossible for a normal electoral situation. Eka Beselia – The position on electoral system will be introduced to diplomatic corps

“It is impossible to continue negotiations within the same format. The short period of time remained until the elections and constitutional change should be initiated rapidly. Our position is still common. Everyone agrees that the current proposal of the ruling party is unacceptable. Agreement should be made on other principles that are first and foremost close to the proportional electoral system. Then those political leaders who are now in custody should be released.

Several representatives will be selected who will meet with the diplomatic corps and present their joint position. This position implies that the government should propose another, more proportional initiative and release the arrested opposition leaders”, - said Eka Beselia, the leader of “For Justice”.

Mamuka Mdinaradze - Opposition has a revolutionary scenario, but it will fail

“If there is no answer, they will be lustrated. They have to say whether they will return to the dialogue table, as it was called by American and European partners. After February, it will be impossible to make electoral changes. So, by the end of February, they have to say whether or not they should return to the dialogue table, and they also have to offer their own, even slightly rational, proposal. They know our offer. If they do not present their view and rational proposals, it means that they are not interested in the electoral changes and elections. Their scenario is revolutionary, and we promise them that they will fail to develop it”, - concluded Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of the parliamentary majority.
