As Weber wrote, foreign direct investment in Georgia is down by more than 50% from 2017, the unfavorable environment for American companies is created. He added that “because of the observed negative trends amidst significant annual foreign aid, calls for consideration of sanctions and other penalties are increasing in the U.S.”.

Majority Leader Mamuka Mdinaradze responds to another letter sent from Washington. According to MP, he didn’t read this letter, but he thinks that here we are still dealing with the lack of information.

Mdinaradze also underlined the influence of the opposition on certain critical statements.

“I will refrain from the comment on the new statement that I do not know. In general, I can tell you that, for example, one of the statements echoed the message that yesterday’s National Movement and their satellites had ordered. This is a sad fact because we are dealing with lack of information here as well”, - concluded Mdinaradze.

Dekanoidze and Kandelaki - opposition responds to another critical letter from Washington

According to Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of the National Movement, the international partners are aware of the difficult situation in Georgia.

“The concern of the international community is actually a parallel process to the hard situation that are in our country today. This is the strongest pressure on the opposition and civil society in terms of political justice. The most recent of these is the arrest of Gigi Ugulava. This is the backlash of democracy. And most importantly, the Government neglects of the will of Georgian citizens. So, of course, the pressure will continue”, - said Khatia Dekanoidze.

Giorgi Kandelaki, a member of European Georgia, stresses that Georgia’s history do not remember such criticism and intense pressure from a major strategic ally.

Sesiashvili - Government takes into account criticism that comes from allied countries

According to Irakli Sesiashvili, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security, the Government has been closely aware of the criticism coming from the allied countries.

“We carefully read and take into account statements from the US or Europe. But I emphasize once again that one is the political process and the other the observance of the principles of the rule of law. If a person, no matter whether he is a politician or not, has committed a crime, he must be held accountable”, - said Sesiashvili.
