The number of Georgian citizens seeking asylum in Europe had significantly decreased compared to previous years, reads the report of the Eurostat [statistical office of the European Union].
“In the first 6 months of 2024, 1,395 Georgian citizens applied for asylum in Germany, marking a 72.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, when 5,155 applications were recorded.
There were 5,080 initial asylum applications by Georgian citizens in EU/Schengen countries in the first half of 2024, a 59% decrease from 12,365 applications in 2023.
The top-5 countries where Georgian citizens submitted initial applications for international protection in the first half of 2024 were:
Germany (1,395 applications);
Italy (1,165 applications);
France (1,125 applications);
Belgium (345 applications);
Ireland (270 applications)”, - says the Eurostat.
