Representatives of the WHO and the Ministry of Health of Georgia have discussed tendencies of salt intake and hypertension in Georgia.
Results of salt intake quality research, examples of various countries of the European Union, salt-reduction communication campaign were discussed at the conference “Salt-reduction strategies in Georgia”.
According to the First Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia it is necessary to introduce integrated and comprehensive approaches towards salt intake and hypertension control in the country, in order to reduce burden of non-communicable diseases and especially high burden of cardio-vascular diseases. As stated by Tamar Gabunia, this initiative can save thousands of lives.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health of Georgia, members of Healthcare and Social Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, international and local non-governmental organizations, field experts.
