Epiphany was traditionally celebrated in Adjara. In Batumi the mass “Epiphany dip” ceremony was conducted whereby hundreds of Orthodox Christians come to the beach at midnight to be purified of their sins, entering the cold Black Sea water.

Rescuers were mobilized on the beach during the ceremony.
