The owner of the elevator is responsible for its operation - the cooperative, that is, the residents of the residential building, the role of the municipality in this case is expressed in the financial assistance. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

“There is a resolution of the Government of Georgia - technical regulations on the safe operation of elevators. In particular, the cooperative is obliged, for the safety of the elevator, to carry out its periodic examination and registration in facility register of the Technical and Construction Supervision Agency, and if the examination reveals defects, its elimination must be ensured immediately. Hallways and elevators are your property. You should ensure its arrangement, rehabilitation, however, we understand the current socio-economic situation in the country.

Therefore, we have the “Development Program of Apartment Owners’ Associations” and various projects are implemented with co-financing. Tbilisi Municipality annually spends up to 40 million GEL on the co-financing program of apartment owners’ cooperatives, within the framework of which the board of administrators finance various needs of cooperatives. When the cooperative needs financial support in order to ensure the safety of the elevators, the board of administrators provides financial assistance to the cooperative in order to rehabilitate the elevator, within the limits set by the budget. I would like to emphasize that in accordance with the above-mentioned resolution of the Government of Georgia, the owner of the elevator is responsible for its operation - the cooperative, that is, the residents of the residential building.

The role of the municipality in this case is expressed in the financial assistance established by our own program. Within the framework of this program, in the past years, we have rehabilitated hundreds of elevators. In order to benefit from the co-financing program, it is necessary to: carry out an examination of the technical condition of the elevator and identify whether the elevator has any defects; register your elevator in facility register of the Technical and Construction Supervision Agency; If the elevator needs to be repaired, contact the board of administrators and it will provide financial support to the cooperatives within the scope of the possibilities, in the appropriate order.
