The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee has held the thematic inquiry in view of the detection of the gaps and challenges upon the enforcement of the Law on Consumers’ Rights and appointed the First Deputy Chair of the Committee, Eka Sepashvili as the thematic rapporteur.
The report and recommendations developed by her are based on the information obtained from the private sector and state agencies and concern the legal and practical steps to be taken for the full-fledged enactment of the Law.
Sepashvili has held respective surveys for 6 months: submitted a question of MP to the Competition Agency, held verbal hearings with the public organizations working on consumers’ rights, held meetings with the business associations, retail traders, representatives of the Competition Agency and respective regulatory bodies and the judges of the Civil Court.
“The report revealed that the Law provides certain gaps and requires the specification of terms and amount of the sanctions, however, as the preceding period and the considerations with the actors of various markets assured us, the Law is being well enforced without the challenges that cannot be addressed by the business circle and hence, the minor gaps that were revealed and require mostly specifications shall be eliminated and we will try to make the Law even more flexible and consumer-oriented”, - she said.
As the Chair of the Committee, David Songulashvili estimated, many other processes and legal acts concern the consumers’ rights and thus, it is crucial to see to the enforcement of the Law; such inquiries reveal the gaps of the Law and allow to find the ways for further improvement and efficiency of the Law.
