Nikoloz Samkharadze held a meeting with the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon

As part of the official visit of the Foreign Relations Committee to the Republic of Slovenia, the Head of the Delegation, Nikoloz Samkharadze, held a meeting with the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon.

The issues of giving Georgia EU candidate status, Georgia-NATO cooperation, ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine, and regional threats were all covered by the parties.

The Minister received thorough information from the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee regarding the legislative amendments to Georgian law that have been made in response to 12 EU proposals. Nikoloz Samkharadze stressed the significance of the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR’s participation in this procedure. He also discussed the dire circumstances in Georgia"s occupied territories and the damaging measures Russia engages in on a daily basis.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia reaffirmed her strong support for Georgia"s territorial integrity and European and Euro-Atlantic integration and noted that the Slovenian government supports the issue of granting Georgia EU candidate status. She expressed hope that the European Union will make a positive decision regarding Georgia in 2023.

“The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia reaffirmed her support for Georgia"s efforts to join the EU and expressed her gratitude for the country"s recent achievements. As you are aware, Ms. Fajon served in the European Parliament prior to becoming a minister. She is well familiar with Georgia and keeps a close eye on the activities taking place there. Slovenia will undoubtedly support Georgia getting EU candidate status in the following year”, - said Nikoloz Samkharadze.

The delegation of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, is on an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia.

The delegation is composed of the members of the Foreign Relations Committee: Levan Karumidze, Grigol Vashadze, and the head of the Georgia-Slovenia Friendship Group, Viktor Sanikidze.
