Minister of Internal Affairs held a meeting with the newly appointed head of the US Export Control and Related Border Security Program in Georgia

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed head of the Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) of the United States of America in Georgia – Mrs. Karen Chaisson.

Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed the achieved results and existing cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the US Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS). The parties also defined future cooperation plans and priority directions.

Vakhtang Gomelauri emphasized the importance of the support on behalf of the Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) in the direction of upgrading and renovating the land border protection infrastructure of the Border Police of Georgia, operational strengthening of the Coast Guard and development of the Joint Maritime Operations Center (JMOC). The Minister also spoke about the importance of holding periodical and targeted trainings in order to raise the qualifications of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In turn, Karen Chaisson expressed readiness to continue supporting the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the field of strengthening border security capabilities, through the construction of border sectors and expert assistance means.

At the end of the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed gratitude towards the head of EXBS for the effort and fruitful cooperation throughout the years in the direction of strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and wished her success in her endeavors.
