The Special Investigation Service has revealed 4 law enforcement officers for ill-treatment and violence throughout the country

The Special Investigative Service as a result of the investigative and procedural actions revealed the facts of ill-treatment and violence, after which criminal prosecution was started against 4 law enforcement officers in October and November of this year.

He could not ensure the safe transfer of his shift and the prisoners left without constant supervision with careless attitude. As a result, the prisoner G.S. sneaked up on one of the group members, who was also moving around in violation of the standard of prudence with a service-staff weapon and took out his service firearm from a special holster stored in the trouser belt. He fired three shots with the mentioned firearm. With one of the shots, he inflicted a gunshot wound in the head, which resulted his death. For the above-mentioned case, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia charged the officer (head of the group) of the Special Penitentiary Service with indifference. The crime is provided by the Article 342, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Shortly, after the victim woman applied to the Special Investigation Service, as a result of operational and investigative actions, the Inspector of the Special Tasks Department of MIA was arrested in accordance with the Article 157¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Service, the Inspector of the Main Division of External Protection and Information-Technical Security of the Penitentiary Department of the Special Penitentiary Service is exposed for the improper treatment.

The Senior Inspector of the above mentioned Service, who was in charge of organizing and controlling the proper performance of the duties of the soldiers in compulsory military service, exceeded his authority and physically assaulted 4 conscripts for violating discipline in Batumi city, in the penitentiary institution No. 3 of the Penitentiary Department of the Special Penitentiary Service. The mentioned actions took place in November 2022, in different periods of time.

After obtaining evidence incriminating the crime, the Special Investigation Service used the authority provided by the Article 19 of the Law of Georgia “On Special Investigation Service” and addressed to the Prosecutor with written proposals with the request to initiate criminal prosecution. After that, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia started criminal prosecution against the inspector who was exposed to crime in accordance with Article 333, part 3, subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate on the above-mentioned cases.

The Special Investigation Service was launched on March 1, 2022. Since its creation, as a result of the investigation of the ill-treatment and violent crimes committed by law enforcement officers, criminal prosecution has been initiated against 23 law enforcement officers.
