To explain it in sports terms, now the ball is in Georgia’s court - Ambassador of Germany

It would be good if the Venice Commission reviewed [the draft laws], the German Ambassador to Georgia said, answering the journalist’s question whether Georgia should send the prepared draft laws on deoligarization to the Venice Commission.

“In the second half of next year, the European Council will once again consult on Georgia’s future European path. Georgia has declared that it wants to become a member of the EU. We will be very happy if this happens and Georgia becomes a member of the EU. To explain it in sports terms, now the ball is in Georgia’s court.

We, the EU, will help Georgia so that the game proceeds successfully. My advice would be that if it is a priority topic for Georgia to become a member of the EU, in this case, it should concentrate on this topic. We have a chance now, and there is a chance for it coming true.

The European Council will discuss the issue of granting the candidate status to Georgia after Georgia fulfills the 12-point recommendations.

Europe is a union of pluralistic democratic countries with a very mature national economy, that is why the European Council issued a 12-point recommendation for Georgia. After fulfilling these points, we will talk about the candidate status, then the long and difficult road begins for Georgia to become a member of the EU”, - said Peter Fischer.
