The 2-year strategy for combating violence against women was discussed at the Government meeting

The Government’s meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was held at the Government Administration. The Members of the Cabinet discussed nine issues.

In particular, they discussed the Georgian Government’s draft ordinance on approving the 2022-2024 National Action Plan of Georgia for Implementing the United Nations Security Council’s Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, also on approving the Action Plan for Measures to Be Implemented in 2022-2024 toward Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and toward Protecting Victims of Violence.

Based on the action plans above, the Government of Georgia, in cooperation with international and nongovernmental partner organizations, will ensure the implementation of every measure necessary for strengthening gender equality in every area of relations, also for preventing violence against women and domestic violence, ensuring effective response, and providing services tailored to suit the interests of victims.

Said plans were developed with support from UN Women and engagement from its experts. Every relevant public institution, along with municipal representatives, and members of international and local NGOs were involved in this process.
