Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational search measures and investigative activities, have recently seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Guria and Mestia regions, 4 persons have been arrested.

Employees of Vake-Saburtalo main division under Tbilisi Police Department arrested L.M. (DoB 1986) in Tbilisi for illegal purchase and storage of firearms. The police, during the search of the apartment of the detainee, seized firearm and cartridge as evidence.

Officers of Mestia district division of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department, as a result of operational and investigative activities detained previously convicted and currently on probation S.I. (DoB 1971). As a result of search activities held in detainee’s house, the law enforcement officers seized a firearm, a cartridge and 12 cartridges.

The employees of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department, detained a foreign citizen - I.B. (DoB 1983) in Akhalkalaki on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms.

During the search of the detainee"s personal search and search held in his vehicle, police seized a firearm, cartridge and 11 magazines.

Employees of Guria Police Department arrested previously convicted M.K. (DoB 1973), at his home in Chokhatauri. As a result of the search conducted by the police in the house of the accused person, Makarov firearm and 8 cartridges were seized.

The crime crimes envision up to 7 years of imprisonment.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 236, part III and IV of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to the illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
