In August 2022 the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 10.9%. With regard to the annual core inflation1, the prices increased by 7.0%, while the annual core inflation without tobacco also amounted to 7.0%.
The following table shows percentage changes in prices for the commodity groups of the consumer basket as well as the relevant contributions to the overall monthly inflation rate.
The monthly inflation rate was mainly influenced by price changes for the following groups:
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: the prices for the group increased by 0.9 percent, contributing 0.33 percentage points to the overall monthly inflation rate. The prices increased for the following subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (7.3%), bread and cereals (2.7%), coffee, tea and cocoa (1.6%), meat (1.2%). At the same time, prices decreased for the following subgroups: vegetables (-6.6%), fruit and grapes (-11.3%).
Restaurants and hotels: the prices for the group increased by 2.3%, contributing 0.11% to the overall monthly inflation rate. The prices were higher for accommodation services (3.0%) and for catering services (2.2%).
Transport: the prices for the group decreased by 3.1%, contributing -0.39% to the overall index. Within the group the prices decreased for operation of personal transport equipment (-4.3%) and purchase of vehicles (-1.4%).
