Georgian Amelioration LLC has completed the first phase of the rehabilitation of distributary irrigation scheme fed from Nadarbazevi reservoir in Gori municipality. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia together with the State Representative of Shida Kartli, Mikheil Shakhulashvili and General Director of the Georgian Amelioration Tengiz Nasaridze paid a visit to Gori municipality to get information about the accomplished works. Currently, 6 projects worth GEL 6.3 million are being launched in the region, after the completion of the rehabilitation activities, 2,740 hectares of farmland will be irrigated on a regular basis.
“The farmers should irrigate their agricultural land areas in order to get a high-quality, abundant harvest and make extra income. Thence, we are spending tens of millions for the development of irrigation infrastructure both from the state budget and from Donor Support Programs.
A few years ago, we restored the pumping station in the Shida Kartli region which files the Nadarbazevi Lake reservoir, thereafter, we started organizing /arranging the irrigation infrastructure. The part of the construction has already been completed and up to 1000 hectares of agricultural land have been provided with irrigation water in the villages of Nazalevi, Khurvaleti, Chobalauri, Nigoza and Zemo Rene. We continue construction activities, and further development of the project”, - said Otar Shamugia.
Within the project, in total, 14 km of water distribution networks were arranged; including the arrangement of reinforced concrete lining of tunnel shafts, installation of gutters, and various hydrotechnical structures. The project amounts to GEL 2.7 million. It should be mentioned, that the irrigation system haven’t been functioning for 30 years in the aforementioned territory.
The second phase of the rehabilitation of irrigation scheme fed from the Nazalevi reservoir is already launched. The restoration works are being carried out on the water distribution network (6.5 km length), as a result, an additional 600 hectares of agricultural land area will be irrigated in the municipality.
