In connection with the 14th anniversary of the August 2008 war, Rustavi Mayor Nino Latsabidze and Rustavi Majority Leader in the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Shatakishvili together with members of the Georgian Dream faction of the City Council laid wreaths at the heroes’ memorial and paid tribute to the memory of Rustavi heroes who died for the territorial integrity of Georgia.

Family members and friends of Rustaveli servicemen who died in the August war attended the event.

Clergymen paid a prayer for the souls of those who died in the war of August 2008.

In the August 2008 war, four Rustaveli military personnel - Corporal Vakhtang Gzirishvili, Sergeant Kakhaber Tavgorashvili, Corporal Levan Iosebidze and Corporal Giorgi Javakhishvili died heroically. After the death of Vakhtang Gzirishvili, Kakhaber Tavgorashvili and Levan Iosebidze, the first class orders named after Vakhtang Gorgasli were awarded, and Giorgi Javakhishvili was awarded the second class order named after Vakhtang Gorgasli.
