We carried out a most significant reform by establishing the State Security Service (SSS) as a stand-alone institution 7 years ago. Independent and very strong service has been created as a result, which is accountable towards the society and which is predominantly aimed at ensuring the security of our country, our state and each citizen at the highest level. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia when delivering a jubilee speech at an event marking the 7th Anniversary of the State Security Service (SSS).

According Irakli Garibashvili, SSS has positioned itself as a key institution with modern standards, which ensures the security of the country in the most efficient manner in many directions.

“Thank you, Grigol! Dear friends, let me greet you all with profound respect! I am greatly honored to be here today. Initially, let me congratulate the management, staff and each employee of the SSS on the day of its establishment.

Within this period, SSS positioned itself as a key institution with modern standards, which ensured the security of the country in the most efficient manner in many directions. Grigol elaborated on this at length and touched upon the activities aimed against terrorism; identification, prevention and eradication of domestic and external threats; fight against corruption and international crime, protection of constitutional order and sovereignty in our state. It is the specific nature of your work that your daily work which is sometimes associated with high-degree of risk tends to be unnoticed by the general public. Nevertheless, I wish you to know that we highly value the tremendous contribution made by you in ensuring the security of our citizens and country as a whole, in strengthening our state at large.

I once again wish to thank you for this work, loyalty, dedication, professionalism, service to homeland and fellow citizens personally from me and on behalf of the Government and people of Georgia. Of course, challenges are plenty. It is not a coincidence that a targeted, orchestrated attack from domestic or external enemies is made towards your service. Nevertheless, I believe that this fight will make you even stronger and SSS will further position itself as a strong, solid institution.

I also wish to briefly touch upon the fact that we have been through a lot of calamities during these 30 years. Our country is still a young democracy and challenges are plenty. Main one of them is the occupation of our country, as 20% of our territories remain occupied and our control does not cover the authentic lands of Georgia. In addition, there are threats that stem from domestic destructive forces. Of course, I wish to acknowledge and highlight your role in this, as domestic and external threats are identified, prevented and eradicated in an efficient manner. Nevertheless, I wish to note one very important fact that makes us all very happy. Absolute majority of the SSS staff are ardent patriots of our country, who serve and protect our homeland. Once again, please accept my gratitude. God be your protector”, - said the Head of the Government.
