The officers of Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained A.G. (DoB 1981), as a result of operative measures and investigative activities for forcing a minor to a child marriage.

The committed crime envisions from 2 to 4 years in prison.

The investigation established that the accused person was forcing a minor, born in 2004 to marry him against her will, through psychological influence.

The under-aged girl informed the police regarding the issue. As soon as the information was received, the law enforcers carried out relevant investigative as well as procedural activities. A.G. was detained on the same day as a defendant.

The girl is currently placed at shelter, while restraining orders are being issued against other members of her family.

An investigation is underway into the fact of forced marriage of a minor by a family member with prior knowledge, under Article 11-150 Part II, Subparagraph “A” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
